Sacred Heart Seminary in Gulu is a minor seminary or secondary school that begins formation of young men for the priesthood. Currently there are 160 young men from age 13 to 19 who will spend six years at the seminary. Following their six years of discernment some of these men will be sent to one of the two National Major Seminaries (Alokolum in Gulu or Katigondo in Masaka) for four years of philosophy. After this time they will be assigned to one year of pastoral/spiritual experience before moving on to one of the two National Major Seminaries (Ggaba in Kampala or Kinyamasika in Ft. Portal) for four years of theology. After this training and discernment has been completed the young man will be ordained a priest.
The cost of supporting a seminarian for one year is about $540 or only $45 per month.

Without the prayers and support of many loyal benefactors, the seminary would have been closed for lack of funds. As a result of its continuous operation there is now a steady flow of young men into the major seminaries. During 2006 there were four (4) men ordained to the priesthood and in 2007 seven (7) were ordained. The majority of these men began their formation at Sacred Heart Seminary.
